Following the disappointment of a failed appeal, Wessex Planning Ltd were approached to advise on the likelihood of receiving planning permission for an isolated house in the countryside.
Under Paragraph 55 of the National Planning Policy Framework, exceptions to restrictive countryside policies can be achieved if ‘exceptional quality‘ can be proven. However only a handful of proposals reach the high standard of this requirement each year, and most are for a modern interpretation of what is more usually known as a grand country house.
Working with Architecture PLB, a local flint craftsmen, and UBU Design over the course of two years, a new design for the proposals is hoped to inspire the Local Authority to a permission. If a permission is achieved, exceptional quality can be showcased to be within the reach of self-builders of more modest means, in addition to those required grand country houses. Watch this space.
